I know that prime numbers are prime because every prime number cant have more than two factors: 1 and itself. I also know that prime numbers are always uneven.

Ok. So, you know how to define composite and prime numbers. How do you check to see if a number is a prime number? Let say....167. How can you prove it is/is not prime? What should you do first?

Lovepreet, I've attached a link to download an Adobe Reader. Download and install the viewer on your computer, then try to open pg. 12 to 15. You should be able to do it without any problem. Otherwise, there may be something else wrong with your computer/security settings?

the first step to check if a number is prime is to see if it is divisible by 2,3 or 5,

you know that a number is prime if it has only 2 factors 1 and itself if it has more than 3 factors then it is a composite number (example 24 is composite because 1 2 4 6 8 12 and 24 are all factors of 24 a prime number like 7 has only 1 and itself as a factor.

you know that a number is prime because it can't be divided by 2,3,5 and any other prime number smaller than the number.

You know if a number is really prime if it has no factors to it. For example, the number 11; it can be divides by 11 and 1, nothing else. To check if this is true, you divide it by 2,3,5 and any even number less than the number itself. If the the number was 17 and you needed to know if it was prime, you'd wouldn't divide it by two because it is a odd number. 1+7 is equaled to 8, which is not a multiple of 3, meaning 3 isn't a factor of it either. You wouldn't check 5 because any multiple of 5 ends in a five or 0. Next you would have to check all even number under 17. No even number is divisable, meaning 17 is a prime number.

I know that a number is prime if it has 2 factors. Those factors are 1 and itself.compisite number have 3 or more factors. ( ex. 6's factors are 1,3,2,6) this is composite. ( ex. 7's factors are 1 and 7.) This is prime. That is how you know a number is prime.

This is how you make sure a number is prime. If the number only has two factors 1 and itself.

I know if a number is prime because,
if i divide the number by all the possible factors, and observe that it only has 2 factors (1 and itself) ...
then it is really prime.

i kmow a number is a prime number when there is no other factor than 1 and itself example 17 the factors are one 17 therefore 17 is a prime number

To know if a number is prime or not we need to identify any factors. If the only factors of that number are 1 and itself that means the number is a prime number. If it does have another factor the number isn't prime it is a composite number.

Example,
3, the only factor of 3 is 1 and itself (3) it has no more factors which means 3 is a prime number.

To know if a number really is prime you would have to see if the number has any other number that it can be divided into. Any number that is even isn't a prime number because it can be divided by two so you know that it's not a prime number it's a composite number. A number is only prime if there is no other numbers it can be divided into except one and itself.

Example: 5 is a prime number because it has no other factors but 5(itself) and 1. Which means that 5 is a prime number.
